First published under the title Locomotive Coaching Stock of British Railways and then its current title, this book has become accepted as the definitive work on these vehicles for both modellers and preservationists. Keith Parkin offers an unrivalled survey of every significant aspect of the design from its gestation early in BR days to its re-emergence in the late 1980s as the basis by which even the ‘Modern Image’ BR found itself well able to promote the virtues of rail travel just for the sake of it. It offers unique and essential data both to prototype and model enthusiast alike.

Alongside this present incarnation Keith Parkin has taken the opportunity to upgrade the text and add much more new material which, together with revised appendices from the original book is published in a separate supplementary volume. The book and supplement may be purchased together at a discounted price.
