From a seed planted in his locospotting days in the 1950's, Eric Gent's interest in the British Railways Standard Brakevan grew. His records span almost 50 years and have formed the basis of this fascinating study of these vehicles and their sisters, the Ballast Ploughs.
Originally written as an unpublished manuscript in the 1980's, Eric has updated the history of these vehicles to give the reader a complete picture of what is possibly the longest surviving operational class of British Railways built stock.
